KNOW & TELL Training

Three Training Options

KNOW & TELL® is a professional development  program to educate all adults to KNOW the signs of abuse and TELL responsible authorities when a child needs helpThis comprehensive program provides exceptional training opportunities to schools, youth serving organizations, camps, coaches, law enforcement, first responders and other members of the community who work with children.

To become KNOW & TELL® Educated, participants have three options; In person training, Virtual (webinar) or the free Online eCourse.  More detailed information about each option is below. All three focus on three key elements – EducateInform, and Protect.  The pillars of KNOW & TELL®

Participants will learn:

  • Mandated reporting responsibilities required by NH law,
  • Legal definitions of neglect, physical, psychological, and sexual abuse
  • Signs of child abuse, neglect and maltreatment
  • Recognize barriers of reporting child abuse and how to overcome them,
  • Steps on how to make a report to the Division for Children, Youth and Families (DCYF), and/or law enforcement
  • Communication tips for ensuring accuracy in the reporting process,
  • The important role every NH adult has in the child protection system, and
  • How NH Child Advocacy Centers (CAC), Multidisciplinary Teams (MDT), and other statewide stakeholders work together to protect children.

KNOW & TELL In-Person

Organizations/Participants who complete the 3-hour IN-PERSON Training receive:

  • Customizable Training based on organizational needs, for example
    • split sessions (1.5 hours over (2) sessions vs. (1) 3-hour session) based on organizational schedules
    • Interactive Activities
    • other as determined
  • 1-2 KNOW & TELL® Presenters (determined by group size) and partners from;
    • the Division for Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) (as available), and
    • Child Advocacy Center (when available)
    • Law Enforcement (as available)
    • Other Statewide Stakeholders (as available)
  • KNOW & TELL® Folder filled with resources and reminders of how to keep children safe and make a report
  • KNOW & TELL® Posters for schools and youth serving organizations
    • Signs of Abuse
    • Helpful Tips for Reporting
    • Keeping Children Safe
  • KNOW & TELL® Certificate with applicable training hours toward professional development standards and requirements.
  • KNOW & TELL® Educated Badges (for organizational websites and vestibule entryways) recognizing your entire organization for successfully completing the training program.

The In-Person Training takes at least 2.5 hours to present and is best delivered in a 3 – 3.5 hour block of time if interactive activities and Q&A sessions are desired.

NOTE: Individual Schools and/or entire Districts may be able use Title IV Funds or their Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund to address the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic to fully cover the training costs.

KNOW & TELL® Virtual (Instructor-Led)

Organizations/Participants who complete the 2.5-hour VIRTUAL, Instructor-Led Training receive:

  • Customizable Training based on organizational needs, for example
    • split sessions (1.5 hours over 2 sessions) based on organizational schedules
  • 1-2 KNOW & TELL® Presenters (determined by group size)
  • KNOW & TELL® electronic resources of how to keep children safe and make a report of suspected child abuse neglect
  • KNOW & TELL® Posters for schools and youth serving organizations
    • Signs of Abuse
    • Helpful Tips for Reporting
    • Keeping Children Safe
  • KNOW & TELL® Certificate with applicable training hours toward professional development standards
  • KNOW & TELL® Educated Badges (for organizational websites and vestibule entryways) recognizing your entire organization for successfully completing the training program.

The VIRTUAL, Instructor-Led Training takes at least 2.0 hours to present and is best delivered in a 2.5 hour block of time if a break and Q&A session is desired.

KNOW & TELL eCourse!

The KNOW & TELL® Online eCourse is a FREE 2.5 hour training focusing on the previously mentioned signs of abuse and neglect, plus includes additional survivor testimony and education.

Organizations/Participants who complete the FREE 2.5 hour Online eCourse Training:

  • Self-pace their experience (e.g., pause/stop/start/resume wherever they left off) throughout the 3 Modules;
    Educate, Inform, and Protect
  • KNOW & TELL® Certificate for 2.5 training hours toward professional development standards and requirements
  • On-Demand Organization Reports detailing participation rates and completion
  • KNOW & TELL® Educated Badges (for organizational websites and vestibule entryways) recognizing your entire organization for successfully completing the training program.
  • Access to other FREE National Criminal Justice Training Center (NCJC) online training opportunities.
